Grass roots and guerrilla marketing tactics are the key ingredients to feed and grow your small business corporation. So go bananas with your gorilla… I mean guerrilla marketing and experiment with more unconventional tactics, which may help your business generate the most success and possibly turn your grass roots into a whole jungle of opportunities. The secret to generating the most success from these techniques is to separate yourself from what all your competition is doing. Do something exotic and different from competitors to let consumers know that you are unique and can engage with the consumer and their needs. A small business executive may successfully incorporate the use of grass roots and guerrilla marketing strategies by focusing on visual, engaging, and promotional aspects that get the consumers that you have identified as your demographic to not only be interested in your products and services, but become devoted lifetime customers.

Everywhere you go even when you’re walking down the street, you have the potential to attract new customers! But how are you going to do that if they have no idea what you’re business sells? Yes there is the use of the Internet, but not everyone is going to happen to see your business entities just pop up in the latest issue of Forbes magazine. This is where you have to get creative as a business executive and do something that your competitors would never dream of. An idea that is often overlooked when representing a brand and its image is representing your company everywhere you go, so that when you’re walking to down the street, in line for coffee, out to dinner with friends. Whatever it may be, you have a way of letting people around you (potential consumers) visualize and become familiar with your brand’s image. This could be as simple as wearing a ball cap with your company logo on it. Maybe you own a window washing company and the guy in line next to you at your local coffee shop sees your company’s logo and just happens to remember that he really needs someone to wash his windows. You just subconsciously associated your brand’s image with a service that he needs performed. That means when the guy that was in line next to you is looking for window washing company’s, he is probably going to remember your company name from the image that he saw on your hat and it just so happens that you have the best deals in town with outstanding customer service and at this moment he has decided he is going to use your company. This may never have happened though if had he not seen your brand’s image when he looked at the hat you were wearing. Visual advertising is everywhere! Find a way that you can get everyone that you come into contact with to recognize your brand. Maybe you have your company logo on your car with your contact information, maybe you have business cards or flyers that you leave for others at the entrance of the gym you go to, or maybe you even carry around samples of a product that your business sells. The point is that when people can identify themselves with or remember your company image, there is far greater potential for them to see themselves using your business’ products or services.

So let’s say that your company has a low budget for its marketing campaign, but you know that marketing your company is the only way your going to see any growth and expansion. How can a company possibly have any success when they don’t have the big bucks to spend on these fancy ads, graphics, and media campaigns? Two words. High Exposure! One of the best ways that a company can experience exponential growth is to get more people to become familiar with their company by engaging with them. If you think I’m literally saying to go out into public and let people see what you’re company does, you’re 100% correct. If you want to see new business within your company, find out what events are going on in your community and find a way to get involved! Not only will this create exposure for your business, but it creates the potential to establish partnerships and collaborations with other people and companies that are involved in the event. People who are attending these events may be interested in finding out more about what your company does and potentially have a purpose for the production or service your company is offering. You can even hold contests and free giveaways. You might say “But my products and services are too expensive to just giveaway”. That’s the best part, it doesn’t have to be an expensive surprise. It can be something as simple as free t-shirts, coffee mugs, and even coupons for a certain amount off of something that your company is selling.

You might have 100 great reviews from your clients, but they might not even matter if someone stumbles upon the bad reviews that several people wrote just because they were looking for someone to blame for their frustration. It is important to keep your clients happy with your customer service because the happier they are, the more inclined they are going to be write a positive review. A positive review is one of the greatest promotional efforts that can be exhibited in grass roots and guerrilla marketing. People can post reviews everywhere, which include news reports, community magazines, and the most obvious being the Internet! Many people will become familiar with your company name and also be able to see what other are saying about your business experience. Remember that guy in line at the coffee shop? Well, he probably has friends, so it is important that your company demonstrates excellent customer service and performance so that the customer will be more inclined to give a recommendation to his own contacts.

Social media may be the most well known form of grass roots and guerrilla marketing promotion. It is critical for every company to have social media accounts to create brand awareness. Not only is social media probably the best form of advertising, but it can be CHEAP! Fortunately you have access to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest all for free. Sure, you can pay to upgrade and promote your ads, but you definitely don’t need to if you’re just trying to help people become more familiar with your company and what you do. Going back to that idea of associating a brand with an image, social media can give you the ultimate advantage when it comes helping people recognize the symbol of your company, which is why it is important to establish a logo or an image that comes to people’s minds when they think of your company. Once you have created this image, make it go viral and help people to become more aware of what your company does. Another form of social media are blog posts. How ironic… Your posts could be about product promotion, the history of your company, and what kind of people you are trying to represent. Uploading photos and YouTube videos can give your business the opportunity to go viral just by the click of a mouse. “What do I post?” you ask. Anything about your company. It might be video footage or photography of your co-workers collaborating and working on a project, an event that you hosted, or even a demonstration of the product or service you have to offer. Whatever it may be, people want to see who you are as a company rather than just a magical figure promoting products on business’ webpage or social media sites. They want to see what goes on behind the scenes so that they can be a part of your company community as much as they are a part of a company’s sales.

Just remember, if you and your company consider these low-cost business ideas, you may give yourself the ability to enhance your business growth and opportunities. This growth and opportunity may not drastically occur over night, but with the right amount of time and nourishment, your small business may flourish into a company that generates a big profit simply by maximizing the right tools of promotion.
